Gäṉgaṉ Homeland is a remote inland community in East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. This update report assists understanding of the barriers to digital inclusion in the community. It presents research findings to date, compares survey results from 2022 to 2024, and outlines changes in communications and media services and usage during and since visits.

Galiwin’ku is the largest Yolŋu community in the East Arnhem region. This update report is intended to assist local and regional agencies, leaders and residents to better understand the barriers to digital inclusion, develop local strategies to address these barriers, and support planning and partnerships with government and industry stakeholders.

This report offers the most comprehensive data to date on communications and media use in remote First Nations communities across Australia. It highlights the vital role of affordable communications, identifies barriers to digital inclusion and identifies where further investment and programs can effectively strengthen digital inclusion in remote communities.

The Measuring Digital Inclusion for First Nations Australians project gives a detailed national picture of digital inclusion and media use among First Nations Australians in comparison to other Australians. The research identifies key barriers to full digital participation while also highlighting the strengths, resilience and aspirations of First Nations communities.

The Australian Digital Inclusion Index (ADII) measures digital inclusion across three core areas: access, affordability and digital ability. It highlights disparities among regions and social groups, including First Nations Australians, and identifies key barriers to inclusion. The latest report includes three detailed case studies and actionable recommendations.
