The roadmap tracks progress on navigating a path to net zero emissions in Victoria in its transition away from fossil gas while ensuring reliability and affordability of energy supply and providing sustainable alternatives for Victorian households and businesses. 

The need to transition away from fossil gas is driven by ongoing gas supply risks, increasingly expensive gas bills and the need for the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in meeting legislated emission reduction targets.

The roadmap outlines how energy bills and carbon emissions will be reduced using:

• renewable hydrogen
• biomethane.
