Description

This 22nd interim report of an inquiry into gas supply arrangements in Australia continues its focus on the operation of the east coast gas market. The report focuses on the supply-demand outlook in 2025 and 2026 and recent prices offered and agreed for supply. It reports on findings of a review of gas retailer pricing and selling behaviour, and considers gas projects and policy settings in the context of longer-term concerns about gas sufficiency and security.

The report covers:

  • how the gas market is functioning in terms of supply, pricing, transactions and market behaviour
  • findings from the retailer behaviour review and highlights ways to further improve retailer pricing and selling practices
  • the policy, regulatory and market conditions necessary to promote efficient investment in and supply of gas in the context of the energy transition.
