Aboriginal deaths in custody in Western Australian prisons
This article provides an overview of the nature and adequacy of culturally appropriate health services within Western Australian prisons based on coroner findings on Aboriginal deaths in custody between 2019 to 2023. The findings reported substandard quality of supervision, care and treatment. The article calls for implementation of recommendations from Australian government inquiries.

Across Australia, governments are incarcerating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children at disproportionately high rates compared to non-Indigenous children. This racial discrimination complaint, made to the United Nations, highlights Australia's' discriminatory youth justice systems and how they seriously violate the human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

The review was conducted by Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) to support seven Indigenous-led communiques into missing, murdered and incarcerated Indigenous women.
