This booklet provides an overview of 13 creative approaches applied to recent research projects. Using creative methods for social inquiry can spark new ways of engaging in futures thinking and are valuable for communicating research findings to the public in engaging and accessible ways.
There is growing interest in using creative methods, drawing from arts- and design-based approaches, for social inquiry. These methods can also be employed for public research communication, translation and engagement initiatives.
The creative approaches included are: creative writing prompts, collages, story completion, zines, poetic inquiry, AI generated images, storyboards, exhibitions, dioramas, films, walking methods, participatory mapping, and speculative design.
