Educational pathways and earnings trajectories of second-generation immigrants in Australia


The paper explores disparities in educational attainment and earnings trajectories among Australian-born children of diverse parental migration backgrounds from mid-adolescence to early adulthood. It highlights the importance of considering parental migration backgrounds in understanding post-school outcomes of Australian-born children. The paper finds that Non-English Speaking Background second-generation immigrants exhibit superior academic outcomes.

Few studies to date have empirically examined the ties between humanitarian-migrant status and circumstances and higher education participation and attainment in Australia. This report fills this significant gap in knowledge.

PPL evaluation: final report

From 1 January 2011, the Australian Government implemented a new government-funded Paid Parental Leave (PPL) scheme. The evaluation was conducted in four phases. Findings informed the Government about the outcomes of the scheme, and they assessed the scheme’s likelihood of achieving its longer-term objectives.
