This report is a plain language translation of five research studies conducted by the University of New England. It helps to better understand how people in Australia experience distress and emotional and psychological ill-health, and what services and supports they have found to be positive and supportive, or conversely, unhelpful.

Among its key findings, the report highlights that suicide is a public health issue in Australia with 89% of respondents stating they knew someone who had attempted suicide and 85% knew someone who had died by suicide.
