Reablement and ageing well initiatives offer transformative potential for older people living in Australia and accessing aged care services as they age. This briefing paper explains why reablement and ageing well strategies should be integrated with aged care reforms. Initiatives and frameworks for inclusion in care systems and services do not always work as intended to ensure inclusion. This paper explores several challenges to achieving greater inclusion in Australian aged care, including systemic barriers stemming from a market-based model that limits equitable access and the difficulty for individuals to navigate the complex system.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can accelerate knowledge in research, though viewed with caution by this paper. The paper provides an overview of risks, concerns and enablers. These identified issues support a cautionary approach to AI and ageing research to safeguard ethical research policy and practice that ultimately serves the health and wellbeing of vulnerable older Australians.

This report outlines the proceedings and outcomes of the 5th National Workshop of the Australian Association of Gerontology Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Advisory Group, held in Perth in November 2017.
