Description
The NSW Reconstruction Authority has developed Australia’s first State Disaster Mitigation Plan (SDMP). This supports the NSW Government’s commitment to making communities safer, more resilient and better prepared to face the challenges of disasters caused by natural hazards such as floods, bushfires, storms and cyclones and coastal erosion and inundation.
The SDMP includes actions to improve how we manage the risk of natural hazards. The plan:
- identifies areas across New South Wales at a higher risk both now and in the future
- sets out options to help reduce our exposure or vulnerability to natural hazards, including community awareness and preparedness, plus infrastructure to help mitigate natural hazards
- sets out 37 short to medium term actions for delivery across government to address existing policy and program gaps
- supports the development of local disaster adaptation planning.
