The General Assembly’s adoption of the Declaration is an important development for indigenous peoples globally and particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This paper seeks to explain the purpose of the Declaration, its significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia and explain what rights are elaborated in the text.
