This paper summarises insights from a workshop with academics and civil society experts, capturing key reflections and recommendations to inform the development of the Children’s Online Privacy Code. Prepared as a briefing for the Office of the Australian Privacy Commissioner, it distils collective expertise to support a rights-based approach to children’s digital privacy.
During the workshop, participants worked in small groups to consider and discuss ten of Australia’s Privacy Principles (APPs) as outlined in the Privacy Act 1988 and how they interacted with children’s rights in the digital world. Participants were asked to consider those Privacy Principles and develop a summary of ‘key insights’ from each small group discussion to share with the Commission. This report documents these key thoughts including notes from the group discussions and deliberations from participants.
