The paper presents data on six measures of living standards: mortgage stress, disposable income, the number of Australians with more than one job, household price levels, tax burden and debt burden.
Key findings
- The typical full-time worker is paying 46% of their earnings as mortgage repayments, up from 32% in 2022.
- Real net disposable income per capita declined by $954 between 2022 and 2024.
- There are 100,000 more Australians working multiple jobs in December 2024 compared to June 2022.
- Price level rises in food and drink, gas and other household fuels, rents and insurance, all exceeded wages growth between June 2022 and December 2024.
