Description
The snapshot compiles essential data on health risks, outcomes, disease burden, healthcare workforce, domestic violence, maternity health and funding disparities in rural Australia.
Rural Australia encapsulates regional, rural and remote Australia. In 2023, 7,305,135 people were spread across 12,329 rural localities.
The snapshot outlines demographics, health risk factors, health outcomes and the health system. It presents the upsides and downsides of living in rural areas as measured against social determinants of health and finds that the distribution of health professionals in Australia is not equitable. Rural areas have an inadequate supply of most health professionals to meet health needs.
