Transforming supports at home: discussion paper
Each year the Summer Foundation hosts a public forum with leaders of the disability sector and members of the community on an issue that needs attention. This year’s focus is on 'Supports at Home'.
The advent of the NDIS in the past decade, including funding for individualised housing such as specialist disability accommodation (SDA), has seen significant steps forward in the availability and quality of housing options for Australians with disability. What has become apparent though is that while the availability and quality of housing is improving, the quality of support often is not.
This research involved interviews and co-design workshops with people with lived experience and it is important that these insights are at the centre of discussions around how we can improve supports at home. This paper summarises and collates responses from our interviews and workshops under these general headings:
- What is not working
- What is working
- Ideas for the future
This paper summarises findings from relevant research on the topic to help inform the discussion about supports at home in the lead-up to, at, and after that forum.
