Description

This report explains the activities of the Australian Human Rights Commission over the past year. It covers issues such as discrimination, children in detention and indigenous disadvantage.

The Annual Report of the Australian Human Rights Commission for the period ending 30 June 2011 has been prepared pursuant to section 45 of the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 and in accordance with the requirements of section 70 of the Public Service Act 1999.

The Commission's mission is to lead the promotion and protection of human rights in Australia by:

  • making human rights values part of everyday life and language
  • empowering all people to understand and exercise their human rights
  • working with individuals, community, business and government to inspire action
  • keeping government accountable to national and international human rights standards
  • securing an Australian charter of rights.
