FAQs

What does APOgov cost?
APOgov is free for anyone with a .gov.au email address. Just make sure you use your work email address when signing up.

How do I access the APOgov features?

When you sign up with your .gov.au email address you will be asked six short questions about your work: job title, type and level of role, the organisation you work for and the policy or program area you are working in.

Once you are logged in, you will have access to your APO dashboard – accessible from the top main menu. You can find all the features there, as well as on the resource pages and in your search results.

Why is APOgov free for people working in government?
APO has partnered with the Susan McKinnon Charitable Foundation, an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit foundation working to strengthen public sector capability and policy innovation in Australia.

We are able to make this valuable resource available at no cost to our government users as part of this partnership to support evidence-informed policymaking.

What happens if I change jobs or departments?
You will need to update your .gov.au email address. To do so, click edit my profile on the lefthand side of your APOgov dashboard.

If I leave government, will I lose access to APOgov?
Yes, you will. At the moment, APOgov is a service we only offer to people with a .gov.au email address.

If you update your email address, you will be able to keep your APO account which offers features such as the ability to add a resource, report a broken link (at the click of a button), add resources to your favourites and purchase advertising.

If you are leaving government but would like to continue the service, please consider supporting APO by taking out a My APO+ membership

If I subscribe to APOgov, can I still get my other free APO newsletters?
Of course. This does not affect subscriptions to our free newsletter service including the Policy Weekly newsletters. If you are new to APO, consider signing up for our free weekly update containing the latest policy and research.

What if I already have an APO account?

If you have an existing APO account with a .gov.au email address we’ll be contacting you to see if you would like to transfer to an APOgov account. If you haven’t heard from us, feel free to get in touch

Can I have both APOgov and a My APO+ membership?

No you can’t. If you would like to access a metrics dashboard for every resource on APO you will need to purchase a My APO+ membership. If not – and if you have a .gov.au email address – APOgov is right for you.

If you currently have a My APO+ membership with a .gov.au email address, we will contact you six weeks before it expires to give you the option of moving to APOgov when your membership comes to an end.

How do I change my subject-based newsletter subscriptions?
Go to your APOgov dashboard, and under the APOgov logo on the left hand side, click on ‘My newsletter subscriptions’.

If you are subscribed to any of our free newsletters (Policy Weekly, Policy Pulse, or APO Update) you can update your preferences (or use the link at the bottom of the newsletter).

How do I set up a saved search?
To save a search and receive notifications, start by searching APO. Use the filters on the left hand side to narrow your search. When you have refined your search, click the ‘Save search’ button (above the search results, on the right) and a pop-up will appear. In the pop-up window you can name the search and choose how frequently you’d like to receive updates.

You can view, modify or delete saved searches via your dashboard.

How will you use the data I provide?
To access APOgov you will be asked six short questions about your work: job title, type and level of role, the organisation you work for and the policy or program area you are working on. We are collecting this data so we can better understand how people working in government are using APO to support their work and improve our services.

We will never sell your data or share it with third parties. You can read more about privacy and data security in our Policies & Guidelines

I still have some questions. Who can I contact?
You can contact APO at any time via email: [email protected].
